June is Audiobook Month

It’s Audiobook Month, my friends!

Anyone out there a compulsive audiobook listener who gets twitchy when there are only 2 discs left, and you don’t have the next audiobook queued up yet?

Me, too.

So here’s some help.

This year, I’m focusing on great audiobooks narrated by their author.

Sometimes, when the author reads the audiobook, it ain’t good.

But sometimes, it’s perfection.

Here are some of the happier cases.

If you’re in the mood for…

And now I’m wondering… what author-narrated audiobooks would you add to this list?

  1. I listen to audiobooks but I have not read many narrated by their authors. The one that comes to mind is Lost to the West: The Forgotten Byzantine Empire That Rescued Western Civilization by Lars Brownworth. I remember being impressed by how much enthusiasm the author brought into the narration.

  2. Oh my gosh…I used to LOVE audio books. I saw this list and thought, HEY, I’m going to listen to that Neil Gaiman, since I don’t feel like reading it. And then I remembered, oh yeah, I’m usually in the company of a 6-year-old and his 3-year-old brother. I haven’t heard a thing over their chatter in years now. Every now and then I try to hear “Marketplace” on NPR, but that only works if I give them ice cream for dessert and they stop talking for the 1 minute it takes them to shovel it in. Maybe in fifteen years or so I’ll get back to audio books!
